how it began…

After 20 years of training and working at all levels of Montessori education and becoming the mother of twins I was ready to execute my dream of establishing a learning environment for young children surrounded by nature and dedicated to following the principles and philosophy of Maria Montessori. With much encouragement and support from family, colleagues and above all my husband we established Montessori Schoolhouse in 1996 with 7 children in attendance (one of whom is a current parent).

We adhere to the AMI (Association Montessori International) principles, where I received all of my training but also stress the importance of the outdoor natural world for a child’s wholistic development. Our school campus has almost 4 acres of beautiful, wooded areas where we play and do nature walks and observations.

Along with our indoor classrooms we have also implemented outdoor classrooms for each level, where physical activity options (running, swinging, jumping, sliding, gardening etc.) exist alongside Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Art and Language. This physical space resulted from a need to adapt during covid and has turned into a happy, stimulating and above all healthy experience for our students.

Our trained, diverse, and dedicated staff have been part of the school an average of 8 years each.

Our Primary teachers are currently enhancing their training to add a dual language aspect to our 3 to 6 year old classroom.

The parents often mention in their reviews that our small school feels like a family in its individualized care for their children. We are especially proud of this sentiment.

School Director

When Maria Montessori observed how children learn best when engaged in purposeful activity rather than memorizing, she developed an educational framework that respects your child's individuality and the needs of the "whole child".

It's our purpose at Montessori Schoolhouse to enact these principals in order to help your child become self-motivated, independent and life-long learners!

Our curriculum combines a medley of sensory-rich environments and hands-on experiential techniques to foster the wonder of learning in your child. We offer opportunities from the simple to the complex to allow your child to grow day by day in their learning and confidence while mastering skills across age groups and stages of growth.
